About the treatment process
We get this question a lot! No, saline solutions are completely different to THink Pigment Remover (a glycolic-acid-based formula), or any other acid-based removal solutions for that matter.
Theoretically, saline solutions are supposed to work by osmosis. Osmosis is a process that involves a solvent (water) moving from a less concentrated solution to a more concentrated solution. In actual fact, in pigment removal, you want the opposite (to move pigment), so we’ve never been sure how saline removal solutions were supposed to work.
THink Pigment Remover is a professional use product that is ‘tattooed’ into the skin. The main active ingredient is glycolic acid, which breaks down the cells encapsulating the pigment particles underneath the skin and dissolves them. The pigment is then pushed to the surface as the skin begins the normal wound healing process
Yes, absolutely! THink Pigment Remover is designed to work on all pigment colours, including yellow that is typically left after laser removal.
THink Pigment Remover also works on titanium dioxide, a white pigment that can turn black if lasered. Titanium dioxide is often found in lip pigments, and camouflage/light skin colours.
By targeting the encapsulation of the pmu pigment, THink Pigment Remover works on all colours (both organic and in-organic) - red, blue, yellow, white (titanium dioxide), black, etc.
This varies case-by-case depending on factors such as - the degree of saturation of pigment, the depth of the pigment, the type of pigment, the skill level of the technician, and several other factors. It also depends on the treatment objectives.
If the existing cosmetic tattoo needs to be lightened prior to colour correction or a colour change, then one or more likely two treatments will be required. If full removal is required (of the whole treatment or part of a treatment) it could require between two and five treatments. No two clients and their treatments are exactly the same, so neither is the removal experience.
Between treatments, we recommend allowing a minimum of eight weeks (up to twelve weeks). This is something that your chosen technician will be able to monitor for best results. Careful post-treatment aftercare will minimise scabbing and promote best healing.
- Apply aftercare twice a day for a week (minimum)
- Do not touch, rub, or pick the area during healing (~ 2 weeks)
- Minimise contact with water and avoid sweating for a few days
- Do not apply cosmetics to the area (only the aftercare gel)
The aftercare and healing process are crucial to maximum results for pigment removed, and skin health. Five years of trials and treatments has provided the best guidance for achieving optimum results. After years of experimentation and many discussions with our students, customers and clients, we now strongly recommend moist healing using an occlusive gel.
Aftercare is important to the pigment removal process. Until recently THink recommended Stratamed gel, but we have now developed our own occlusive gel optimised for technicians and clients to use after THink Pigment Removal treatments — THink Care & Repair.
We look forward to launching THink Care & Repair in May 2025.
Yes! Our most recently training has been updated to educate technicians on the process for emergency removal procedures. The process is different to a 'regular' pigment removal treatment, as it is not tattooed into the skin.
Emergency removals can be performed with 48 hours of your original treatment, where THink Pigment Remover is used as an 'eraser' for the old work, being skilfully applied to the area to distupt the pigment encapsulation and draw the pigment out of the skin.
Not all technicians offering removal with THink Pigment Remover will offer emergency cosmetic tattoo removal, or will be able to accomodate the last minute appointment - use the map to find possible nearby technicians.
Yes, THink Pigment Remover is all of these. The ingredients are all pharmaceuticals and there is no need for animal products. Glycolic acid is made from sugar cane (i.e., plant-based). None of the ingredients contain gluten. Oh, and THink Pigment Remover was extensively tested on humans, not animals 😊
